‘A WINDOW TO OUR DAY’

Playzy Days is now a very well established Holiday Club open from 8am till 6pm Monday to Friday during all school holidays except Christmas time.  We have eight staff that operate on a rolling programme so that all the children are familiar with the adults that care for them.

You can expect a warm welcome at Playzy Days.  Our well qualified and experienced staff understand the importance of making children and their carers feel at home and amongst friends.  Children usually leave their parents/carers and go off to play as soon as they arrive.  Sometimes some encouragement is required and staff ‘buddy up’ children with their friends.  Children are offered breakfast on arrival, usually a selection of cereals, toasts and chocolate spread (a Playzy Days speciality!) or home-made scones.  Children can return to the breakfast table up until 9.30.

Before children arrive, staff check the daily register before setting up the rooms, ensuring there are plenty of exciting and fun learning opportunities on offer for all ages. Daily planning sheets help to follow the interests of younger children.  Playzy Days is very well resourced and toys and games are constantly updated or replaced.  There is a wide selection of indoor equipment including art and craft activities as well as outdoor equipment that is securely stored outside.

At 10 am every day we have a meeting.  We welcome new children, introduce the staff, and the children decide what they would like to do for the day.  We also discuss health and safety issues such as where and how we exit the building, boundaries, behaviour expectations and we foster an atmosphere of ‘team spirit’ looking after each other and working together.  A plan for the day is recorded on a whiteboard and this is displayed to enable children to follow it.

Healthy snacks are served at intervals and children have access to drinks all day. Delicious, hot, healthy lunches are cooked on the premises by staff.  Children love our food and second helpings are given freely.  All children are encouraged to try the food but an alternative is offered if required.  A light tea is also provided if children need to stay late.

Weather permitting, children spend a great deal of time outside on the vast expanse of manicured lawns.  They know where to play safely and children are supervised at all times.  Staff organise activities such as parachute games, races, treasure hunts and sports activities.  Table-top activities are also set up for those who do not wish to join in.  In addition, we have professionals who come on a weekly basis such as Salford’s Gymnastics coaches and a contemporary dance teacher.  We also have occasional visitors such as wild animal handling and face-painting.

We walk the children to a local playground and we have also been known to go paddling in our wellies in the shallow brook in Worsley Woods!  On Fridays we arrange mini-buses to take the children further afield.  If the weather is fine we go to local parks and farms but if not we go to the cinema at the Trafford Centre.  All trips are risk assessed appropriately and the staff-child ratios are always correct. Whilst off-site children wear yellow Playzy Days caps and ChildGuard wrist tags as an extra safety measure. There is always a member of staff present on each mini-bus.  Wherever we go we are complimented on the children’s good behaviour.

At the end of our busy day children can be taken home at any time up to 6pm and we guarantee they will sleep well!
